Job description
The Ministry of Education provides leadership and direction to Saskatchewan’s education, early years, library and literacy sectors. The ministry is committed to providing equitable and inclusive education, early years and library systems that benefit all learners and foundationally place Indigenous knowledge systems, cultures and languages within structures, policies and curricula. The Ministry of Education is advancing reconciliation with early years, Prekindergarten to Grade 12, library, and First Nations, Métis and Inuit partners by acknowledging our shared history to build a brighter future together.

The Provincial Library and Literacy Office is hiring a Public Library Coordinator who will play a pivotal role in supporting innovative library initiatives at the provincial level.

As the Public Library Coordinator, you will:

Articulate a compelling vision for the future of public library services.
Liaise with the public library sector to build partnerships and achieve consensus on shared initiatives.
Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate public library services in priority areas.
Coordinate provincial support of accessible library services.
Evaluate training and development in public library systems. Plan, develop, and deliver support as appropriate.
Identify patterns and trends, provide innovative solutions and make policy recommendations to senior leaders.
Assess library system performance using established metrics and make recommendations for system improvements.
Write a variety of detailed, accurate and clear policy documents and technical materials, including strategic policy documents, cabinet documents, annual reports.
The ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge of public library legislation, policies, board governance and local government relationships.
Knowledge of current social, political, economic, and technological trends and issues that are relevant to public libraries.
Strong relationship building and problem solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong research and policy analysis skills.
A valid driver’s license to be able to travel within the province.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a Master’s of Library Science or an ALA-approved equivalent. This education should be combined with knowledge of public libraries, preferably with a Saskatchewan context.

Bilingual, English and French is an asset.
